Reading" we are data" really opened me up to see how connected we are between the real world and ourselves. How our interactions can be solely based on technology. How even in this class we've stated so many of our likes and dislikes on a social platform for the world(classmates) to see. Its always been said that nothing you put on the internet is ever private. It was mentioned in the reading that " we are the data "and that might be the most realistic thing I've heard I say that because without us putting our information out there and giving these platforms life they would be gone . Myspace died down because it wasn't getting the user interaction anymore that's how everything survives interactions and being something people want to do or go to. A lot of people have a completely different digital identity than they do a physical one. Some people use the internet to escape what could be their terrible lives by creating a whole new identity on the internet or even stealing from someone else. That's what our society has come to. There are professional ways to go about social media like "Linkedin and Indeed" Those are professional sights that help further your career or get it started and that's how they are promoted. But no matter what each site has an algorithm on making you want to say and keep going through it and that's all created through the databases. All and all we created everything and we can destroy everything but since we've centered our selves to needing these sources they are not going anywhere.
I agree with you, when you said that "we are the data" is the most realistic thing you've heard because i feel the same. Everything on the internet is based on what we do, what we need, what we know, everything is about us and based on us. Because of this we can see that there are many ways in which websites gain this information that we do not know about and have to be more aware of it.
ReplyDeleteHi Nicole,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your point discussing the difference between our personas in real life compared to our online personalities- it is so true with how saturated and performative certain applications, such as Instagram, truly are. Despite this, we continue to keep these apps alive, as you said. I hope going forward we as a society can create a more private, candid, and protected environment online.
